Job Description The Lab Operations Manager is responsible for the design, implementation, management, maintenance, and support of multiple Engineering labs within the Motorola On Demand Systems organization. The primary responsibility is to manage development and test systems within the Engineering labs, and ensure the availability, utilization, and integrity of these systems. The Lab Manager will work with the Director of Software to design and maintain a state of the art lab that provides provide engineers access to a hundred or more systems consisting of application servers, database systems, Video On Demand systems across multiple operating systems and hardware platforms. Ideal candidates will have 5+ years of system administration and lab administration in a “hands on” environment. Responsibilities include: network configuration, troubleshooting and maintenance; documentation of lab environment including network topology, equipment use; application installation and maintenance; working with 3rd party vendors to trouble shoot lab hardware and software products; lab materials management; forecast lab growth and implement upgrade policies; some facilities management for the labs including heat, cooling and electrical power. Qualifications: hands on knowledge of physical network topology layout and wiring and knowledge of IP network configuration and troubleshooting. Prior experience configuring either Cisco, Foundry or Extreme routers. Experience installing and maintaining networked Windows XP and Linux desktops and servers. Experience managing (installing/maintaining) applications in a networked desktop environment. Ability to use Microsoft office including Microsoft word and some drawing tool (Preferable Visio). Ability organizing and communicate effectively to and engineering team. Experience with Active Directory, LDAP.
