Job Description Education Preferred: Masters degree in library and/or information science or equivalent work experience. Undergraduate degree, required. Primary Responsibilities: Taxonomy Development Design of organization, labeling, navigation, and indexing systems to support both browsing and searching (including the development and management of controlled vocabularies and thesauri) Analyze metadata available in content collections to determine vocabulary compatibility or convertibility, enhancements, and integration of metadata needed to support good information accessibility. Refine metadata and/or workflow process for various applications. Supervise implementation of appropriate content attributes in the content management, portal or website production environment. Evaluate and select appropriate software relevant to metadata, controlled vocabulary, and other information retrieval solutions. Working knowledge of traditional library cataloging and digital library metadata standards, such as MARC and Dublin Core. Outreach and Customer Service Establish strong service-oriented relationships with clients, including keeping clients informed about progress and issues, aiding project development, maintaining a clear understanding of clients’ business issues and objectives, identifying changes in project scope, addressing quality assurance issues, and communicating client concerns to project manager and technical members of project team. Train, supervise and advise content authors and owners in their classification of web content and use of taxonomy tools. Coordinate enterprise search portfolio by defining project requirements, identifying issues and risks and recommending approaches. Investigate, prioritize and deploy enhancements to basic search such as multilingual support and federated search. Monitor the search logs and other system reports to ensure currency and quality, identifying bugs and gaps and handling appropriately. Make recommendations to the technical team on the performance of search algorithm. Enterprise Information Architecture Refine the methodologies and processes used to develop Abbott’s websites. Serve as an advocate for User Centered Design throughout the organization. Create and maintain documents such as wireframes, flow charts, site maps, content inventories, functional specifications (schematics) Identify and prioritize tasks and then evaluate the level of effort required for the IA portion of initiatives. Conduct usability testing and other user validation exercises Perform competitive and gap analyses
